"Nut Kit" question

"Nut Kit" question
So the fuel line underneath the upper intake is the culprit.... (after a new fuel pump, new fuel strainer, new fuel pulsator) Why purchase the "nut kit", when it's just urethane fuel line pushed over ****** fittings. Could I not purchase the same urethane line from a hose company, install and pressure test?

I wondered that myself when I replaced the spider and nut kit on my wife's
'93 Jimmy. Everyone I spoke with at parts stores said it was a bad idea and I should use the whole kit and replace everything. They never really gave me a reason. I'd be curious to see everyone else's opinion.

People have used rubber hose, nylon hose, etc with clamps and gotten by for a while. Everyone that has cared to admit that it failed again states they wish they never attempted it.
Think of it this way. Is saving the $40 worth tearing it all back down when it leaks again?

Yeah I wouldnt afro-engineer it with some hose. I just pull the intake and do the lower gaskets at the same time, its much easier to get the 'nut' parts out with the part on the bench.
$40 for the nut kit and another 12 for the lower intake gaskets.

Just did the nut kit in mine... $50 and it's a pretty easy install if you're patient. Just don't drop the screw down the back of the engine - you'll never find it. Don't ask how I know...
