Default stalling

Hey kids...

OK, so I had this problem on Monday. I was idling pretty rough and I stalled out a few times. I did a tune-up & oil change later that day, and it seemed that things were good. I haven't done the fuel filter yet, because I just did everything in my driveway and didn't jack the truck up at all.

So, I was driving to work today (about 15-20 miles) and my service engine light came on, so I'm like "DAMN! Now what?" Once I took my exit off the highway, it again started with the rough idle and stalled out when I parked. I also noticed that there was ahigh pitched squeal, which made me think belt, but when I started it up again, it was gone.

Now I haven't done the fuel filter yet, like I said. Do you think that's all it could be, or maybe something more? What concerns me is the squeal that came and went. Perhaps it's both the belt and the filter?

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Well, I figured it out. I went to see my mechanic and it was the EGR valve. He hooked it up to the scanner and it was at 69%...when it should be 0%. He cleaned it of and put a new gasket in it that has a filter...works good as new and saved me buying a new EGR for hundreds of dollars! He told me that most places will just replace the valve, but you can get this gasket with the filter on it for so cheap! I paid $25 for it (Canadian price).

i heard that those screens can "gum up" amd it was recomended to me not to use one but since its already on i would suggest to wait and see and if you get a problem again get a normal gasket

What I've been told is that, yes, they can gum up, but it's better than having all the stuff get into the EGR valve. The whole point of the screen is to keep the carbon and other crap out of there, so when if comes to having problems again, you just have to put a new gasket on with the screen, instead on continual wear on the valve. I'll let you guys know how it goes in the months to come.
