Default Tailgate lock

I have a 1990 S10 Blazer 4x4 Tahoe Edition....I can't get the tailgate to lock with the key, The oval key goes in but will not turn in any direction...Did these trucks come with 3 keys...Is there a trick to this I don't know about OR or is the lock/handle assembly needing to be replaced? I've seen them available new online for $15 or so with keys included....That's why I was wondering if these trucks had a separate key for that.

the original key locked the doors and tailgate,if its been changed then they came with new keys. Honestly get it at the dealership. Ive gone through 3-4 cheap locks in the last 6 months. Sure enough i can change one out now in 5 minutes with channel locks and a screw driver,it still sucks.

Default Tailgate

Maybe you didn't put in right. The lever on the end of the cylinder assembly has a L shaped lever on the end that pushes down the lever that unlocks the gate. If the L shaped lever isn't above(I think) the horizontal lever running to the side of tailgate it won't open it.

I have an 89 that I am the original owner. There were two keys one square and one oval. You can remove the lock and take it to a locksmith to match your key or replace pins. If you buy a new lock, I would still take it and have it keyed by a lock smith so you do not have to have 3 seperate keys. One for ignition, one for doors and now one for the back glass. When I replaced my rear lock I went and had it keyed to match my door keys. Any independent lock smith shop can do it very easily.

I would bring the OEM lock to a lock smith, usually the problem can be repaired, and will be cheaper than a replacement and last much longer. My gate lock did this same thing. Found one at a pull it yard with the keys. took it apart, got the parts I needed from a lock smith, and its still working 100%
