Testing 4X4 1989 S10 Blazer
I have a 1989 Chevrolet S10 Blazer 4WD 4.3L TBI 6cyl.
It has a manual shift lever for the 4WD transfer case.
When I used to change from 2WD to 4WD, 4WD light used to go on, and I know it was working fine (the 4WD).
But now, when I go 4WD (Lo or Hi), light is not going on and it feels like the front axle is not engaging, although I can feel the "4Lo kick" when I go Lo.
Is there any way I can test/make sure that the front axle is engaging without lifting the 4 tires off the ground (I don't have jack-stands)? And is the light/switch actuated by the lever or by the transfer case?

There is a switch on the front axle that is used to indicate front axle engagement. The "kick" you feel in 4w hi is the transfer case low gear and has nothing to do with the front axle engagement. An easy way to see if the front is engaging would be to find some loose dirt or sand and see if you spin a front tire. One tire is all you need off the ground to see if it is working though.

Thanks for your reply anyway
