1989 4.3 compatible with VIN W Intake?

Hey Everybody!
been away for a while. Long story short: my kid locked up the 4.3 vortec (W) in our 1993 Jimmy. Not really her fault. The engine was on its last leg anyway. My question is, will a 1989 4.3 accomodate a vortec intake? Or, will I have to swap heads to accomodate the 1993 vortec intake? As far as I can tell, the block or lower end doesn't seem too different. Anybody got any solid info?

I beleive the vortec has square ports and the old style has oval ports.

We put an old style intake on my froends 350 vortec and it worked even though the ports were diff sizes. We also had to drill the holes out in the intake bolt holes cause the vortec intake bolts to the heads, and the old style 350 was to the block... Its a while ago so im kinda foggy.

If both engines have square ports, then yes you can.

The early vortec vin:W will bolt up to an older TBI engine. The ports are the same other than what looks like a little notch on the top of the runners on the Vin:W. The Vin:W known as the CPI has a more agresive cam and better flowing heads than the TBI. This is where it gets it's power. However the TBI system is more reliable and if you have a doner truck with harness, pcm, and fuel pump i would use the all that and convert it to a TBI with CPI heads and cam. But to simply answer yes the CPI intake bolts on to the Early TBI engine.

new question: will a 2002 engine work with my 1993 intake?

The deal on the 1989 motor fell thru. I now have a line on a motor out of a 2002 blazer. Does anyone know if all my 1993 intake stuff will fit on the 2002 motor? I have all my top end stuff from my 1993, from the heads and up. My lower end is totally shot, oil starvation to the crank is really bad for it. I think I finally have my daughter understanding how VITAL oil is to the health of her truck. I put it to her like this: If you run your truck out of fuel, it will faint. If you run it out of oil it will DIE, forever!

Anyway, just want to know if this motor swap will work. No, I am not converting from CPI to SCPI. I gotta get my kid mobile so she will stop driving my wife's car!

So once again, will a 2002 SCPI motor accept a 1993 CPI intake? Or, will I need to swap the 1993 heads onto the 2002 block?:icon_deadhorse:

not sure it will work. the 94 cpi intake has 12 bolt holes. two in each corner and 4 on the inside that bolt to the block. the newer 2002 intake only has the the 2 in each corner. 8 total. and the 2002 has different style heads. but if everything were to bolt up. you might be able to use the newer heads and the older intake. but you would need to do alot of mods. like useing the old obd1 computer to operate the single style injector out of the 94 and still haveing the 0bd2 computer there to operate everything else. which could be very very complicated and may simply just not work. you would be better off swaping motors and changing the computer and all wireing harnesses. but then again the old transmission might not work with then newer computer. but if you also had the trans for the new motor then yea it would work. so i dont think its a good idea to swap just intakes. may not work. let sombody else chime in before you do anything.

The 93 intake and heads will bolt on the 02 block. The intake bolts into the heads, not the block. The only things i see as being an issue is some sensors in the block may not bolt in. Also see if the older distributor will still bolt in. I know they use different distributors. Also the accesories bolt on in a different pattern. Idk if they will line up.

i appreciate all the input everybody! I'm going to call the guy about the motor tomorrow. If anything, I'll see what the motor looks like and pick my options from there.

if that engine doesnt work out, just drop a 350 small block in it lol
