1993 S10 Blazer lock cylinder replacement

Good afternoon. Just picked up a 1993 S10 Blazer.

One issue that it has is that the previous owner broke the key for the door locks. Actually, they broke it in the rear hatch lock but since the doors are keyed the same, well...you know.

What they wound up doing was not locking the doors and they also pulled out the cylinder from the rear. Not sure why the latter though.

I want to replace both the door lock cylinders and the rear gate lock cylinder as well.

Is this a hard job to do? Are there any instructions or videos out here that might walk me through it?

I greatly appreciate it!

Thanks kindly,
James

i have no idea how to do the tailgate, but pretty sure the older s10 door locks were held on by this big clip. once you get the door panel out of the way you will see it you just have to pull or hit it out of there and the rod just hooks onto the lock.

the doors will be a bit harder, not much room to get in there, they are just held on with a U clip

the tail gate is a lot easier, remove the trim panel, and then there are I think 4 bolts which will give you access to the inside where the lock is held on, its held on with a u clip as well, slide that out, and the lock will come out.

I think all 3 could be done in an hour, hour and a half tops.

so basically to sum it up. Doors, remove door panel, remove insulation behind door panel, locate lock inside, reach up in there with a pair of needle nose pliers or something similar and put out the lock clip, and the lock will side out.

rear- remove interior panel (couple screws)
then remove the plate (4 bolts, cant remember the size, maybe 10mm)
then remove the clip for the lock and it will slide out.. installation is reverse of removal.

richieeeeee take a deep breath. its easier then you said it was LOL.

K,tailgate. remove the fancy cover. Now,grab a pair of channel locks. remove the clip thingy holding it in. replace, then use locks to replace clip. no need to remove the 4 bolts.

Doors. remove the 2 screws, and pull door panel off. chances are you will break clips. Get a pack from autozone etc for 5 bucks
Pull clip off cylinder, and then pull cylinder out and while looking at it you will see a tiny clip that slides to get the old one off. use a little flat head to do it. replace. go in reverse.

DONE.

for aftermarket tailgate latches....they suck....i went through one ever 4 months or so. Spend the money at the dealership.
