2 wire plug in the front differential?
 

The 2 wire harness that plugs into the front diff. on my 85 s10 4x4 has broken wires. What is this for?

i believe thats for that 4x4 indicator on the dash that lights up cause the front axle is engaged by a cable. been a while since i messed with one of the 80s trucks though

i think that its job is to recognized when the front axle is engaged and then trigger the dash/console light.

Thanks! That is what I was hoping as I do not want to have to fix it. I have never had any kind of lights letting me know if the 4wd was engaged and maybe now I know why. Is there a light at the instrument panel or at the shifter or both?

ive owned a 83 and a 85 and i dont ever remember seeing any light either lol.

if its on the dash it SHOULD light up when you turn the key forward during its test sequence but if its blown then it wont do it....

actually digging deep down in my memory banks of whats left of my brain i think it is supposed to light up on your floor shifter cover. like the rear tires are already red but the front tires light up when you engage 4wd.:icon_wheel:
