4.3L Engine wants to quit while driving?
 
Hello Everyone!,

Just wanted to know what could be causing this:

Every now and then when the engine is cold, (when recently started or after paked for a while) during acceleration (driving not in park or neutral)the engine seems to want to shutdown.

If I stepped on the gas the engine would shutdown, but if I just leave it alone it will almost shutdown and accelerate a bit and will run fine after that. It will do this about two or three times then run fine. Any ideas of what it could be?

Oh, by the way the digital RPM's show no change during this.

Recent changes:
Added K&N filter, added fuel injector cleaner, after that tank was consumed, filled w/ 93octane, changed oil press. sender, and engine temp. sensor.

Sounds like an EGR valve problem or a vacuum leak. You may want to inspect your vacuum lines and clean the EGR valve.

how recent was the K&N install? Did you maybe not install the tubes correctly together and theres air leaking around something,, Mass air flow sensors are tricky... I found that out the hard way on a older car i had..

I installed the K&N after I bought the car, I'm pretty sure I installed all the hoses back, but I will double check. I know there is a hose that is not attached to anything, but I cant figure out where to attach it to. The seller said he had the same problem, the engine would try to die-down. He mentioned that I should have the cold sensor changed. Where would the cold sensor be? Also, if it tries to die on me and it recovers back to normal, and I shift thru all gears, when coming back up to reverse it would shut-off. Oh, about leaking air, could it possibly be thru the PCV valve?

I'm also getting about 13.6 MPG's, whats the normal MPG's for a '92 4.3L?
