'87 S-10 Blazer - Anyone familiar with dash wiring?
 

I 'm apparently having an intermittent issue with the wiring in my dash. It seems to be losing the ground connection for the dash circuits including the cigarette lighter. I will notice the dash voltmeter reading low and if I push on the dash it will jump back up to normal. I also see changes in the temp and fuel gauges when this happens and also the backlight is affected.
If I use a meter and check from a solid ground like a seat bolt to the ground side of the cigarette lighter I can see a voltage difference where it should be zero.

My question before I start tearing the dash apart is has anyone dealt with this before and where might I find the connection for grounding the dash circuit?

on my 83 it was at the very bottom left corner of the dash, kinda right above the ebrake pedal. it will be one of those 1/4 inch sized screws facing upwards with a small wire going to it. so just lay on the floor and look up by the pedal hopefully you see it

i hope that fixes it i spent days tracing the wires and eventually found it.

There is more than one on the FI models. Wanna say the one by the e-brake is most common problem one since its the lowest. If you look from the engine side of the firewall all the sharp pointy knuckle skinners poing through are a screw and a good place to chase the head on the interior side. Every one won't be a ground but a good number are.

Y'all both nailed it. I checked this evening before I ran some errands and found the wire above the ebrake pedal was loose as a goose. I tightened it up and everything seems to work just fine now - thanks a bunch since it saved me a lot of time and effort.

no problem, like i said i ended up tearing apart my dash a few times and spent quite a few hours searching for that stupid wire
