91 s10, column in my hands driving

1992 s10, 4.3, auto on column, 4wd, 4 dr.

for a few days, since i adjusted the steering wheel, my column has been getting looser. today, it got real loose, with the wheel, shifter, and wiper switch going in all directions, left and right rotation, and loss of electrical dash lites and engine. also locked in the straight ahead wheel position. key feels noticibly looser too, like the rod broke.

is the labor of working on this along the road worth it, or should i just get another column.
i do not have a wheel puller, or tilt spring compressor. i did one of these on an 89 iroc a couple years ago, and ended up getting another column.

does just an s10 column fit it?

thanks in advance!

RE: 91 s10, column in my hands driving

How is the column loose? Is it a tilt column, and is it sort of loose and shaky in the zone around where the tilt-action takes place? If so, this could be a hazard (speaking from unfortunate experience). lemme know.
