air pump removed

Default air pump removed

ok i followed a post on how to remove the smog pump everything went ok now i have a miss and its backfiring through the tbi its sounds like a timing issue but it didnt do this before the smog pump removal.i did change the plugs,wires and cap and had a heck of time finding the firing order the one i found had it passenger side 1,3,5 drivers side 2,4,6, that didnt work i wouldnt even start any info would be appreciated

2.8 or 4.3?


Had it removed on both of my 60 degrees (2.8 and my 3.4) for years and have never had a problem.

its a 2.8 i dont think that removing the pump would do anything its something else just not sure yet what it is

Ya sure ya got the exhaust manifold plugged good? A leak will cause it to suck cold air and ruin valves.

well i fixed the smoking issue it almost sounds like a timing issue it backfires in the exhaust the firing order that i found for this motor was passenger side 1-3-5 drivers side 2-4-6 it wouldnt even start what is the firing order for a 2.8

On american Vee engines a rule of thumb the side that is offset to the front is the odd side and the side offset to the rear is even. On a 60 degree the offset to the front is on the left/pass side. On a 350, 4.3, 454 and the likes the offset to the front is on the right/drivers side.

I'm not sure if that holds ture to imports and I'm sure somebody gonna say XXXXX built in XXXX doesn't hold to that rule. For the most part its true.

I put the wires on in that order and it wouldn't even start but when I switched them to 135 ds 246 ps it started

i was searching around and found that it is possible that distributor out 180 degrees out .im not sure how this would have happened i guess im just guessing i need some advice lol im alittle lost at the moment

You need to verify the number 1 firing position. Easiest way to do this is to remove the spark plugs so there is no compression. Hand crank the engine to TDC. You can do this by having some one feel for air blowing out the number 1 spark plug hole and then lining up the flywheel mark at the O degree mark on the timing scale. Then mark the location of the number one plug at the distributer cap. Remove the cap and the rotor should be pointing at the number on position. (Firing position).
