Changing Oil Filter

Does anywany know how to change the remote oil filter on a '94 Blazer. I just got one and it's due for a new one. Upon looking at the filter I am wondering how you are suppose to get it out?

just twist it off like any other filter. Just because it is remote located, doesn't make it any different. Make sure that you oil the oring on the new filter as well as half fill the filter before you install it. Just make sure that most all of the oil soaks into the filter media before you tip it on its side to screw it on.

Except that the filter is between the left fender & the air fliter - there isn't any room, without removing something, to get the filter out. I was wondering if there is a way it's suppose to be done, or just however you can get it out?

You may have to get at it through the wheel well... You definitely shouldn't have to take anything off to replace the filter.

I have a 94 too, and I take air cleaner box out to get to the oil filter. I takes about 3 minutes to get the air cleaner out, then there is plenty of room to get to it. Just be very careful lifting the old filter out. One false move and there is oil everywhere.

I have a '93 and I hate were the oil filter is located. For some reason GM decided to tuck it up behind the drivers headlights under the air intake hose. Stupid place to put a remote filter. You have to move stuff out of the way to get at it. And there is no access door in the inner wheel well to get at it. At least on the NBS they stuck it up under the radiator. Anybody ever move the remote oil filter to under the radiator?

I've never thought about that...I'm just glad I have small hands for my '93

I don't think GM was thinking about making maintinance easy... How hard would it be to move the oil filter under the radiator?

Well, I live in Oshawa where they're all made here in Canada, and trust me when I say that seeing what the people are like in the city, brains were not involved in truck building for this city.

I'll let you know. I am in the process, a very slow process of swapping engines in my '93. I'll move the remote oil filter to a better spot before I am done with the swap.
