Okay so things have now changed with the truck. I got a good reading of temp of 90C ish but shortly after The check gauges light is now staying almost all the time now. Could the gauge / wiring be bad? How could I check the wiring / gauge I don't have any volt readers. I might be able to get one

And I get my parts from Napa

There is a possibility that the gage in the dash cluster is faulty. My dash gage was acting weird and replacing the sending unit did not correct. I ended up getting a dash cluster from the junk yard and swapping the temp. gage from the junk yard cluster to my dash cluster and my issue was corrected. Getting a used cluster is the best alternative because you will get a complete set of replacement gages in case one of the other gages go bad. You could even swap the entire cluster but you would lose your actual miles unless you transfer the speedometer from the old cluster to the replacement.

Okay that's what my thoughts were but one problem I can't figure out how to get the heater controller off too remove the dash gauge housing and my Haines manual doesn't have my dash it shows the older style I can get the 2 screws on the bottom and all the wire harness s off but how do you remove the metal bar.

To remove the heater switch from the dash: 1. Remove the two screws at the bottom of the switch cover. 2. Remove the electrical connectors on the back of the heater switch. 3. Remove the vacuum line cluster from back of the heater switch. 4. remove the retainer for the cable that the slider operates. 5. Remove the slide cable of off the post. Now there should be nothing holding the switch in the dash and you should be able to pull out the whole switch out of the dash. Now you will have access to the top and bottom screws for the dash cluster. You will also need to remove the light switch on the other side of the dash.
