Default code 42

my 1987 2.8 s10 blazer will start easily but only runs for about 2 sec. and dies. It is showing a 42 code. Can you help with what that code means? The book mentions est circuit open, or shorted to ground. It also says dis open or shorted. It also says fuelcutoffrelay circuit open or shorted. Can anybody tell me what I need to do now? Wher would I look to find the wires that could be shorted?Wher is the fuel cutoff relay?thanks.

What I have for an 87 2.8L Cide 42 is Electronic Spark Timing Circuit. There is some pretty good troubleshooting procedures in the Chilton manual if you don't have a scanner. I'd follow them. Looks like the worst it could be is a ignition module or a shorted wire. You might get out cheap.
