crossed battery terminal
New here. I have a 1983 s10 Blazer, left the ignition switch on over night. tried to start it in the morning and it just clicked continuiously. Thought the battery was low so I jumped it and got alot of spark at the battery and some smoke under the dash and hood. When I took the jumper cables offI didn't notice if I crossed the connection but it acted like I crossed the terminals. Not sure exactly where the smoke came from but now there is NO electric anywhere (no starter, lights, no nothing. Can you help me?

Start by removing and testing/charging the battery.
It's possible that the battery is cooked and that other systems may have been overheated but still might function. I'd recommend removing all of the fuses from your truck before replacing the battery... or a known good one. Place a clamp style ammeter around the + wire going to the battery. Replace the fuses one at a time while monitoring the ammeter and being aware of any sounds and smells that may be emitted. While you're doing this, turn the ignition to "on" momentarily each time and monitor the result. Through this process you should be able to determine if something is fried within a particular circuit. Let us know what sort of results you come up with. |
found a fuseable link near the starter. The wire was completely melted saving the electrical system.
