Fuel Filter 91
 

I plan to change the fuel filter for my 91 blazer, ive looked around and several times people have mentioned that you need to depressurize the system, then another post said the psi was so low it wasn't necessary. I have a book for it and in the maintenance section it says to just removed the screws, lay some newspaper under the car and place the new one it. So my question is for a 91 blazer, do i have to depressurize the system or anything special?

You will de-prssurize the system when you first loosen the fuel line connection on the filter.The reasoninstructions and some people say you must de-pressureize the system is because it is a safety hazard to spray gasoline in your eyes and all under the car.Just be preparedfor gasoline to spray everywhere when you slowly loosen the fuel line connection.

I clean parts and tools in gasoline and never had a problem with a explosion or fire. However, you mustuse a littlecommon sense when working withgasoline and keep it well away from an open flame.Liquid gasoline does not burn and canl smother a match butvapor off liquid gasolinewhen mixed with oxygen will explode.

You can release most of the pressure by simply removing the gas cap. Wait a minute then loosen the connections on the filter, some gas will dribble (probably not shoot) out so be prepared with eye protection and a rag, after that make sure you use a flare nut wrench and not an open end or combination wrench on the fittings. Most of these old Blazers fuel lines are not in the best of shape so be gentle with the lines down there...pretty easy job overall.
