Which Fuel Sending Unit to Purschase?
 

My gas gage has been inaccurate for a very long time and I plan on replacing the fuel sending unit very shortly. Below is the list from Rock Auto for Fuel Senders for my 89 S15 Jimmy. They range in price from $38.79 to over $300.00. I am leaning towards the FINELINE brand for $54.79 but does anyone have any recomendations or preferances?

much as I like the ACDELCO parts (OE chevy ftw) I might make another suggestion: Get a fuel pump at the same time. It'll cost you more (like maybe $200ish total) but it's a pain in the ass to get the fuel sender out of there and your pump WILL eventually die. May as well replace both now while you've got everything out of the tank.

I have thought about it but the fuel pump is not that old. You are right though that it really is the same job and you never know when the fuel pump might die. I am willing to bet that the pump is going to last quite a bit longer so I am going to do the Fuel Sending unit only and hope I do not get burned.

i'd go with the midrange one then. you're not going to get any longer-lasting parts if you get the high-dollar ACDelco parts, but you might get lower quality for $34. just make sure you get the exact right one for your truck. some of these things came with 13 gal tanks, and a 20 gal sender will read wrong, or vice versa.

I like OEM parts as well but sometimes the price is so out of whack with the aftermarket that I am willing to give the aftermarket a try. I like NAPA parts as well but in this case the $38 sending unit from Rock Auto is the same one availible from NAPA but at $55. My engine and transmission are both GM Goodwrench Remanufactored and both are very solid. I also had issues with an Advance rebuilt starters and had to return them to Advance and they also sells AC Delco remanufactored starters and I had them order one for me and it's been in there for over 5 years now. I purchased a rebuilt blower motor from O'Reilly it worked but was very noisy, I ended up buying new GM blower and it is very quite with no issues. All my tune up parts are always AC Delco.
