HELP:92 S10 4 Dr.Blazer Tailgate Glass Lock

[:@]I'm trying to get the the rear tailgate glass to lock into the tailgate after replacing both shock supports on my girlfriends 92 S10 4 Dr. blazer.Looking into the hole the latch looks OK but I don't know if it suppose to have a plastic cover on the latch where striker meets, can move it with a screw driver, and the striker off the glass is good. Isthere some sort of adjustment for the latch or do I have to get a new latch? She has powerdoor locks on this vehicle. I also notice that the tailgatecloses but doesn't lock with the power door lock engaged. If I need a new latch for this is does anyone know where I could get it online or is this a dealer part? Thanks in advance, Roma

This 92' S10 Blazer has 2 piece setupwhere the rear window liftgate glasslocks into the tailgate. The latch in the tailgate doesn'tlock into the strikeron the rear window. There is a button above the cigarette lighter for rear window which seems to be broken (no detent when press). Anyway, is this rear latch/lock adjustable? When closing the rear liftgate glass the striker from the rear glass goes into the U shape metal latch but the latch does not close onto the striker locking the window. I guess I need a new latch/lock but I thought maybe someone here knew if there is an adjustment for this lock. Thanks, Roma

Have you tried to clean off all the old grease yet. Sometimes it gets so thick the locking mechanism gets stuck.

there is an adjustment. remove the lower panel (not the glass) to access the latch. loosen the two bolts and then move the latch to mate with the window striker. then tighten the bolts. however the button might be stuck in the open position, holdingthe latchopen. this is an electrical problem. disconnect the release in this case.

You can buy the whole locking assembly with two new keys and everything to put it in externally and internally at advance auto parts for about $15....just take the inner part of the tail gate off and a few 10mm bolts holding the cover on. At that point all that holds on lock assembly in place is a black "clip", I would suggest using the OEM clip instead of the aftermarket, it's a little stronger. Just pry it off and reinstall, should work great. Also, while you are in there, if your back window squeaks or makes noises you can adjust the latch assembly, move it down about a mm or so and it should stop. You want it to where you have to firmly close the back window but not slam it, that way it gets a good seal and is not loose, should stop all noises!

I forgot about the power issue....if it has a back window release on the dash then that is all that unlocks or "pops" it, except for the key in the back. If it doesn't have a button, there might be an actual actuator back there, and when you replace the lock mechanism you can check and see if it's getting power when you hit the buttons on the door, if it is, replace the actuator and it should work.

UPDATE...the latch just had to be readjusted, loosened the two 10mm nuts that secures the latch and lifted the latch a tad and remove the bogus wire previous owner installed to keep window closed. I love the no money fixes the best!
