I bought a 89 S10 Blazer 4x4 4.3 back in January (Got out of the marines needed a cheap run around vehicle that could get me snowboarding) for 1300 bucks. Had a few problems, replaced the heater core and water pump, few electrical issues. But overall nothing serious. 4x4 needs some work (Again forums lead me to the vacuum switch on the transfer case, gotta get around to fixing that; speaking of which does anyone know an effective method of testing the 4x4 engagement?)

Recently an oil leak has formed, its not dumping oil, but it leaves a nice little pool wherever I park. I scoured these forums (And others) in an attempt to diagnose my issue. I happened upon the oil cooler lines/replacement fix. As far as I could tell there were no major leaks coming from the crimps (Slight weeping, will definitely apply those fixes when I get time; however not the cause of this issue) Got under the truck, cleaned a bunch of oil and gunk off stuff started it up and watched for oil. The attached picture is what I found. I figure I need to replace a seal or o-ring where the lines attach to the block. It may be as simple as tightening that bolt; however I'm no mechanic and would like to be sure before I dive in and ruin something. Any and all advice would be helpful.

Edit: To be clear the leak seems to be coming from where the remote oil filter lines (The metal ones) attach to the block.

 

Yeah it could be that oil cooler line adapter seal... but Id try looking further up on the heads to see if its coming down from the valve cover gasket and or RTV seal around the lower intake. Maybe even oil pan gasket...

 

I actually know 100% its coming from the oil cooler line adapter seal as you call it. I cleaned it off, started it up and rolled underneath, and watch it start seeping out. Not sure if you can see the picture I attached, but where you see oil is where it's coming from. I turned it off right away before I took the picture.

I then wiped it off and watched it for about a minute and saw a little bit start to seep through.

Edit: Not to say those other things might also be leaking, but I watched it seep out there. Sorry if I came off a little know-it-all-y in that post.

 

well based on what you called the thing-a-ma-jig in question and some googling I think I figured out that I need to replace gasket.

As I don't want to replace the lines (As far as I can tell they are fine) and just the seal I figure I just need to unbolt the lines from the adapter (1 bolt in between the lines). And remove the adapter (The round thing with 2 bolts... I think....) new gasket and reverse process.

Yeah there is a gasket and a large o-ring seal in there... Felpro ES70016 is what you need.

 

Yup, that is the oil cooler line o rings, and the adapter gasket that is leaking. Be very careful to not over torque the bolts, or it will crush the o rings and it will leak again. Best way to get to the lines is take off the front skid plate, and snake a lot of extensions along the oil pan.

I solved this problem by just removing the whole remote filter and putting the filter back on the block.

 

Call me an idiot but I turned my leak into a drain... lol.

Im pretty sure I know the culprit, I didn't seat the gaskets correctly fit the adapter, gunna retry tomorrow. But for ****s can anyone tell me what the gasket with the square hole is? And the 2 smaller o rings

 

I have the same leak, I picked up a replacement gasket set at O'reily for about 5$. My leak is about a drop or two a night, so I am waiting to change when I do an oil change. Sounds like you are on the right track though.

 

those kits came with 2 gaskets,for 2 different designs if i remember correctly.

On my 2nd gen all i used was the big o-ring and half moon gasket from the kit
