Does that sound right or is that to hot

Sounds like its sticking

Yup I'd swap out the tstat ASAP!

AndrewO1991 May 14, 2013 09:57 AM

my 94 does this. With the old tstat and with the new failsafe. I dont loose coolant. It's only at 220 for a few seconds, and even so that's not real damaging so i dont concern myself with it too much. You can change the thermostat just to be on the safe side.

i dont know if its a good thing but my 93 has been this way since i bought it 4 years ago. always scares me, gets up to lke 220 then goes down to 190. maybe it has something to do with where the temp sending unit is or something

91 blazernick May 15, 2013 04:09 AM

Ya it only hits it for about a second or so but Ya I still might switch it for a new 1 to be safe only had the truck a week

newguy May 15, 2013 04:27 AM

maybe its already open when it hits 220 its just the antifreeze moving from the combustion area past the sender. I`m over thinking this :)

chris015 May 15, 2013 11:37 AM

Naw. mine did this when i got it. swapped the stat and fixed it. Its sticking SHUT. once it finally fails you'll overheat. stats like 5 bucks? and takes 10 minutes to change it. cmon man.

Jakeduece May 15, 2013 03:08 PM

I agree with chris. Mine was sticking for less than a week (doing just as you described) Then it left me stranded in the middle of downtown lansing, running very hot. When I got it home I replaced the thermostat and its all been good ever since. A normally functioning cooling system SHOULD NOT ever exceed 210 under normal circumstances. Just my 2 cents :icon_eddie:
