New Member, Some Questions '85 s10 Blazer 3.4 Swap

Hello All,

I'm new here on the blazer forum. I recently purchased a 1985 S10 Blazer Tahoe edition here in AZ. I sold my 1988 Toyota 4Runner that I thought I would never sell. I wanted to buy american and had to have this blazer when I saw it! Here is the info: 60,000 miles on Box B. 3.4 Swap (about 8,000 miles on crate motor), rebuild 700r4 transmission, 4x4, 5" trailmaster lift, bigger springs in the rear, not blocks! Clean interior and clean paint. I will post pictures soon as I am having my mechanic refresh the front end suspension/steering because it was bad and couldn't get it aligned.

I have a few questions about the 3.4. I have been researching and it seems like these are fairly easy swaps. Here are the questions:

What oil do you guys use on these engines? Regular dino oil? 10w-30?

Can I get an edelbrock 4 barrel or something on the 3.4 without any major modifications? What else to add more hp?

What else should I know about these engines since I am trying to get familiar with my new purchase.

I am so used to the 22re on the Yota's and am excited to get to know the 3.4 and look forward to driving my new rig. I want to drive the truck as is for awhile and then when I get the itch to start getting more power I will do it! Thanks for any input.

The 3.4 could recommend 5w-30 or 10w30, i'm not sure but leaning towards 10w30.

An edlebrock 500cfm should be ok for a 3.4. You will have to get an intake that will work with it. The factory intake (especially the 2.8's) flows terrible. 2.8 to 3.4(3.1 or 3.8 as well) is a popular swap as they bolt right in and will perform better than the little 2.8.

Sweet. I researched about the 3.4 swap. The s10 blazer i bought only has about 8000 miles on the gm performance crate engine. Everything seems in order and everything works. Im gonna have to time it again or adjust the carb as it sputters when first accelerating and idles kind of high, about 950 rpms. Any other thoughts?

If you cant get the carb to adjust right make sure you dont have any vacuum leaks
