Rebuilt Tranny

Hello

I am in the need of a getting my tranny fixed. I was wondering about how much it would be to take it in and have it done? Parts and labor.

I here its cheaper for older vehicles but I am thinkin that may just be for the parts to do it yourself and labor not included.

Just started getting SS today cause my dad has cancer so the money I get will be going towards fixing my blazer and helping my mom and I since my step dad is an a-hole but I won't get into that.

Anyway...any ideas?

RE: Rebuilt Tranny

I rebuilt my 700R4 tranny last summer. Cost me about $200 in parts, and I bought a used torque converter. A new torque converter will cost about $200 by itself. Most tranny shops want around $1000 to $1500 to rebuild a tranny around here. Depends on which tranny you have as well.

Save yourself some money by taking the tranny out and putting it back in the truck yourself. Get a estimate that way. Call around for estimates. They will want to know a few things. Like year, mkae, model, engine size, and is it 4x4. Would help in this reply as well.

Once you get the tranny out, run a can of tranny flush through your cooling lines and then cover then with a rag or tape so dirt doesn't get in them. Once you get the tranny back in the truck, take it to them so they can verify it is installed correctly and keep your warrenty in force. A good tranny shop will offer a longer warrenty.

You could also do the salvage yard route. Find one at a local junk yard, mkae sure it comes with a warrenty. When you do the swap, again flush your lines, add new tranny fluid and add a can of "Tranny Shock" fluid instead of one can of tranny fluid. The tranny seals can go into "shock" when you introduce them to new fluid. Most common on trannies that don't get regular fluid changes.

RE: Rebuilt Tranny

Well took it in yesterday and they said today the tranny is perfect. They found some spark plug wires that were getting burnt to hell so they fixed it for free. They are really cool people and i think its like a lil family that owns it. Cheap places and very helpful. They told my mom to take it to this guy who i guess doesn't believe in charging so much for older vehicles. So he is gonna completely check everything and I guess the people said they think its not running on all cylinders and a few other things. The guy will be checking everything tho from top to bottom and fixing it all. So happy i dont have to get a new tranny!

Thanks for the replys tho. Once I get the important stuff fixed and running good I am gonna start on looks.

If nobody remembers I have the 89 blazer with the GMC grill lol.
