replace back glass and hinges?

Long of the short a lift gate in a parking garage was dropped on my truck by an young punk that "Didn't see my truck", even though he lifted the gate and slammed it down within 2 seconds of each other icon_rant. Anyways I digress. It hit between the roof rack and the wing and pushed the wing down which broke the glass. They are paying for it and I got an esimate from my local Chevy dealer for $944. (250 for glass and the rest paint for scratches on roof) Now what I was wondering is my back glass was the kind with no moulding, just plain glass. Do I just undo the torx screws in the hinges and remove the glass that way? Seems too easy. Also how do I remove and replace the hinges themselves? I have been wanting to go wingless and after this incident I have more incentive and motivation. If I can do this myself, I'll do this, fix the paint myself, (the whole vehicles getting painted next spring), and use the rest for a complete exhaust. Which is despritly needed. Still has factory Catalytic and pipe looks like 30 diffrent pieces cut and welded together instead of one long bent piece. Sorry for the long post and thanks alot. This forum keeps saving my ass time after time! Untill I get my truck fixed, I'm stuck driving my moms 2000 ford focus icon_badrazz. Yeah it's that bad, with the grumpy dwarf and eyeore stickers in the back icon_no. My trucks a 92 s10 blazer 4x4x4 BTW.

The glass is just held on with the bolts you see.

To go wingless, you have to get new hinges. They bolt onto the body. You'll just have to find the regular ones. I am not sure if LMCTruck.com has them in their catalog, but that would be the first place I would check.

So it is that easy

Well, nice to know that this is something I can tackle. I knew I had to change hinges to remove the wing. Other wise the flat deflector comes off and you have 2-3 inch long hinges sticking out for the deflector. I'm used to working on my old BMW and her focus so normally it's always worse than it looks as far as repairs. I like my truck more and more each time something breaks. Ha ha, but thanks Swartlkk. I appriciate it.

Well I kno this is much later but I went to the junk yard - got a used glass and had it installed all in less than one hour. However I got 490.00 from GEICO - - I recommed GEIGO to everyone - my policy is only about 900 a year for 3 vehicles so this was a great thing they did - no questions asked. The glass company didn't want to tackle finding the wing etc - anyway I have some 17 inch rims for the S10 Blazer - mines an 85 - they fit most any Chevy with the Blazer bolt pattern. Gary
