Signals and Shorting

I have a '93 blazer, s-10, 4 door.

There is a short somewhere in the vehicle. It originally drained the battery for a month before we found that it was the power locks, which are now disconnected. Around the same time the lights were having issues as well.

This might be confusing but here it is: [ul][*] The left turn signal lights will only work, if all headlamps and other "outside lights" are off.[*] When the left blinker is on: it appears like the emergency lights are actually being triggered, all blinkers working.[*] When the left blinker is on and the headlamps are on: there is no turn signal sound being made. (fixed)[*] When the left blinker is on: The blinkers on the left are brighter than those on the right.[*] For a while, the headlamps would only turn on after flipping the switch for approximately 5 minutes.[*] The dash lights, and light for the 4 wheel drive indicator on the floor, will blink when the left turn signal is in the on position. [/ul]I'm sure the switch is bad for the headlamps. It's like a black box or something with 3 input areas for plugging in different sets of wires.

Aside from replacing this switch, where else can I look?
Steering column?

Check all your grounds for the wiring harness and computers...you are having what sounds like a resistance issue if it takes 5 minutes for the headlights to come on when the switch is turned on.

I believe that the headlight/turnsignal switch are one unit and you must dis-assemble the steering column to replace it, this could also be where you might find the bad wire/ground problem...

RE: Signals and Shorting

From the diagram we have, the hazard is a brown wire from the signal switch in the steering column. We put the light tester on this wire and it blinked, while the hazards were both on and off. [ul][*]When the hazard lights were put into the "On" position and then tested, it was a normal indication from the tester.[*]While the hazard lights were in the default "Off" position, the tester was much slower to brighten up, yet at a steady pace.[*]Touching the black wire at this conection created a clicking sound someplace. Normal?
[/ul]This would be the short we are looking for correct? The tester light should only display when the hazard is pulled into "On" position I would think, or is there a constant feed on this wire?

btw, we were doing this at the connection about a foot or so down the steering column, not the actual signal switch farther up, which is tomorrows project.
