steering coulmn smoking from blinkers
 

ok im sick of outside sources trying to help me you guys seem to know your stuff im pretty "cartarded" but i learn what i can. I to ...during a rainstorm had my stearing wheel start smoking my. windows were rolled down in the rain on my 88 s10 blazer and there was a small amount of water on my wheel,i wiped it off and was on my way as i started to use my turn signal (during the rain) my wipers turned...my wipers have never worked before and they were turning i was so happy but then the smoke came. i have tried to take my steering column apart but the farthest i got to was taking off the wheel itself and showing a big bolt in the middle of the steering wheel mounts and 2 long rivets that go deeper into the column. im so confused and i don't have the cash to just let a mechanic have his way with it. so if anyone has clues that can help me that would be great thanks
