Why are you wanting to check timing? What is wrong with the truck that you think you need to check the timing just curious?

pull the carpet back from the foot/toe area of the passenger side under the dash. you'll find a lil single tan wire, with a lil black connector. Unplug it,start the truck up. adjust timing to 0*, cut truck off, plug wire back in. start it up and see if it runs better.
edit : do this with engine hot. |
found the wire!! i will be da--ed!
now one more step, can u tell me how to use the timing light , i have 2 do this by myself!:icon_omg:
|
sure.
1. connect the power to the timing light to the battery. 2. the clamp goes on the #1 cylinder. Which is the front plug wire on the drivers side closest to the front of the truck. clip it anywhere on the plug wire. 3. if you look at the crank pulley you will see a line on it. you'll be staring at this once your setting time. 4. watch this video. Its basically what you have, except your wire you unplug in under the carpet, not where it is in the video. the last part of that vid,you see that lil staggerd looking plater the lights flashing on? it'll have lil marks and a 0 in the center. every time that light flashes, you'll see one of them lines on the pulley. rotate the distributor a tiny bit either way until you can get that line on the 0. once set the line might move around a tiny bit which is normal. Now just turn the truck off, plug that lil plug back in and your done. Also,if you cant get the distributor to turn, then the hold down strap needs to be loosened. its a tight spot,a 3/8 knuckle and a socket can usually do it,if not they make a special timing wrench kit. loosen the bolt just enough to turn the distributor. you want it to be stiff, not loose or else the distributor could wonder around. its 5am,ive yet to sleep. hopefully i typed this right LOL. |
