Towing question
I have a question , I need a truck to tow my 17ft boat. The whole set up,Boat,Motor and trailer weight about 2000 lbs. Someone locally is selling a 93 S10 Blazer Tahoe LT 4WD with V6 with 105k miles. Can this tow my boat without putting to much strain on the tranny ? I want to use it for my daily driver also, what kind of MPG on the hwy can I expect without towing? Can I use reg. unleaded? Thanks.....Rich

RE: Towing question
This is all best guess, but I would be realisticly guess you would get about 13-18mpg depending on how you drive. That truck can tow a 2,000lb boat just fine, but like I think anyone on this forum would suggest is that you put the truck in 3rd when towing somthing of that weight. Also people may suggest that you get a tranny cooler other then the one that runs into your radiator. Good rule to go by is dont try to tow anything more then 3/4 the weight of your vehicle. However I did know a guy who towed his work trailer with a chevy blazer beater that weighed 4500lbs he claimed. So these blazers are pretty tough.

RE: Towing question
I pulled a 6x12 u haul trailer completly filled..and I mean filled with furniture and other stuff...I don't know the exact weight...I have just the standard hitch...and a 2000 blazer...4 door...I had no issues pulling the trailer twice 500 miles in both directions...however....it does take it's toll on your truck...and if you have a lot of hills and steep terrain to do something to make sure your trannie stays happy..I lost heat for a bit after the last time I pulled the trailer...and as for gas millage..I have found with my truck...pulling or having a bulky load (like canoes etc..) doesn't affect the gas milage much on these blazers..my gas milage dropped from 18-20 on highway..to about 16....but I am sure there are other people who would have more facts on the whole towing thing...

RE: Towing question
I pull my 2000 lb pop-up camper with mine with no problems. I keep it in OD even!! I just shift to 3rd if the trans starts to get busy. I get about 16.5 mpg normally, and with the camper attached I get about 14. This year I am adding a trans cooler and I just finished my trans temp gauge install today. I use Lube gaurd in my trans and I put a drain plug in the pan so I change the fluid every 12,000 miles and the filter every 24,000 miles. This keeps my fluid looking GREAT!!! It looks as though I have a brand new trans. The most important thing to keep in mind is keep it cool!! These transmissions (like all autos) HATE HEAT. Keep em cool. Korey.
