Troubleshooting A/C on 1989 2.8l blazer s10

I just picked up a blazer for a great price, but the only problem is that it doesnt have air. I dont know whats wrong with it. The fuse is ok. The compressor is on the belt but doesn't seem to engage when I turn it on? And the blower inside blows VERY weak towards the floorboard? Also, i put a key on the dryer, and pressue blew out of it, so Im assuming the system still has something in it?

What should i check next? im an idiot when it comes to a/c.

Thanks guys

If you do not know the fundamentals of the system, it is best to take it to someone that does. A/C is not the easiest thing to work with. Having pressure and having the appropriate pressure for operation are two different things. Your problem could be something as simple as an under charge or possibly a pressure sensor gone bad, but it could be a leak which will require much more work to find.

If you really want to learn and do not mind buying some specialized tools, check out the Tech Article (DIY) section.

thank you for your response.

you make all the sense in the worlld. i guess ii was looking for an easy fix or imagined it to be a common problem with a magic solution.

your suggestion on someone who knows is a good one

It comes from experience. A/C is something I trouble shoot, but do not mess with in any other way. If it is as simple as replacing a low pressure switch or clutch, no problem, but if it involves the refrigerant, you can hurt more than help unless you have the proper tools and experience.
