Valve cover gasket leak - 88 Jimmy
 

My 88 Jimmy with the 2.8L V6 has a nasty valve cover leak (the passenger side valve cover) and I got almost everything out of the way so I can remove the valve cover, except for this one unit right by the firewall, it's right over top of the back side of the valve cover and is in the way of me getting at the last bolt and I'll likely be unable to remove the cover without removing whatever it is (some kind of module, as I had to unclip some wiring hookup from it). My trouble is I have no idea how to get this module out of the way. I believe it's bolted onto a bracket behind it, and bolted onto another piece beside it, but I'm unsure how to remove it. It has what looks like a spark plug boot plugged onto it. I gave the Haynes book a read and like most Haynes books, it was terribly vague and undescriptive.(i.e. : remove any items or hoses in the way of the valve cover; that kind of thing). Does anyone have any instructions(pictures would help!) regarding the removal of valve covers for the 2.8L V6?

The coil bracket? Its held on by 10mm bolts from the back and about the only way is with a wrench. Its slow going and a PITA but it can be done.

You were right, it was the coil bracket! I finally got it off. Took a while with a stubby 10mm, but it worked. Thanks!

Now I got all the valve cover bolts off, and the valve cover & gasket is pried off of the head, but there's a metal tube in the way of the end of the valve cover that won't let me lift it off. It's on the same side as where the coil bracket was. I unclamped the rubber hose off the end of the metal tube and it was holding anti-freeze. I plugged it quickly, and after a few minutes I unplugged it and it wasn't leaking anymore unless I squeeze a different tube which is coming from the radiator. Anyways, how do I get this metal tube out of the way so I can lift the valve cover gasket? Haynes makes no mention of it.

Thats your heater hose and you can loosen it where it goes into the intake enough to move it out of the way, just don't forget to tighten it back and check your coolent level when your done.
