01 Blazer, Odd AC Problem
K, I have a Blazer 2 dr, v6 (2.8...6...whatever), anyways, this only happens every 2-3 weeks, and for 1-3 starts during that problem day. I will start it, and when the AC is on, i goes from cold for 5 seconds, to hot for 5 seconds, it will keep this up for 1-2 minutes generally, then everything is normal, and as I say, it only happens every 2-3 weeks for a days worth of 2-3 startings
one friend says 2 recharge ac, that it is not sensing enough, but when it blows, it is cold as heck, and like i say, i only have the problem every 2-3 weeks for a day.
another friend says it may be the clutch, and to get out and tap it to see if it comes on, (sounds like 2 much running, and not enough time 2 know anyways), since it only blows hot for 5 second intervals, then back to cold, and repeat for 2-3 minutes.
Any other thoughts, or anyone have this problem?
and no, it does not sound like the flap inside the dash, above the glove box, it kinda seems to be in tune with the clutch, but that may not mean diddly.
Thanks in advance, this is a GREAT forum, we stand strong.....

That's not odd. One of your pressure switches is tripping to protect the system.
I bet your orifice tube may be partially clogged (or stuck if you have an "extreme duty" variable tube). It's a $2 part and costs $100 to replace since you need to have your system evacuated and recharged (and you should have the A/C tech replace the drier too since the system is open).
If the system is partially clogged or slightly overcharged, it's your high pressure switch on the compressor tripping out to keep the compressor seal from blowing out.
The low pressure switch on the drier/accumulator may be tripping to keep the compressor from sucking on a vacuum. This can happen if the compressor pushes all the available freon into the condenser and it can't move into the evaporator and back to the compressor as quickly as designed. (ie, because of a clogged orifice or condenser..)
You may just have an undercharged system, but I doubt it. Usually when it's undercharged the compressor cycles on for about 1 second and the system never gets cold. My money would be on a clogged orifice tube with the high pressure switch tripping...
You need a proper A/C gauge set to determine the problem. If it were mine, I'd take it to an A/C shop and tell them to install a new orifice and drier and recharge it; your compressor obviously works.
