Default 1996 starter problem

my remote starter works fine but I get that grinding sound just before it turns over. The kind of sound you get if you keep turning the ignition key after the truck has started. Is the remote starter wrecking my starter? should I stop using it?
thanks

By remote starter, you mean you have one of those fancy keys where you can start the truck from like 50 feet away?

Have you tried starting the truck with the key in the ignition to see if it makes the noise?

Is there an adjustment on the rpm at which it will deactivate the starter, possibly a running rpm adjustment. It would be something that once the remote starter controller sees like 500rpm, it will deactivate the starter. The reason why I ask is because if there is such an adjustment, it may be set too low so even after the engine has started, if it faulters even the least little bit, it will attempt to start the engine again.

Thanks for putting me in the right direction. I will find out if there is a RPM adjuster.
