to start off i have a 96 ls s10 blazer 4x4.now my 2 problems are that my rear window defroster doesn't work but the orange light comes on at the switch and my rear hatch button in the dash doesn't open the hatch i can open it from the back just the dash button does nothing.i dont know the wiring realy of this truck nor could i find a diagram.but is there anyway these 2 problems could be linked?or does anyone have a where to start point?

 

My 2005 s10 jimmy had the same problem with the rear hatch not opening with the push button. The first thing I tried was the fuse which was the problem, just swapped it with a new fuse and it worked best kind. Not too sure about the rear window defog issue.

 

On the rear defogger, does the electrical path go through the lift struts? Check connections.

 

pettyfog is correct:check connections first at the glass-usual culprit is body flex:allows moisture in as years go by-also look for latch tightness,this is adjustable as well-this will help keep moisture and monoxide from entering the cabin.It has been my experience with these Blazers that the rear defrost is relatively trouble-free! step66

 

all fuses are good.and the back connections are on the glass not the lift struts and there tight and clean and there still soldered to the window.is there some type of relay for the defrost?i can imagine it works how a bulb does by shorting out ive been told to check the grid but i have a second layer of tint and dont want to rip it.

 

Measure the voltage to frame at each connector with the defrost turned on. If no voltage present at either, then problem is elsewhere. You might also measure the resistance of the grid...it may be open.
