Two weeks ago or so, my blazer started "skipping" a little while accelerating. It would only do it from a cold start (in the morning) for around 2 miles, then straighten out. Sometimes it was somewhat hard to start (2-3 attempts) during this time. Previously I have had no problems with the car in the department.

While out of town, it won't start. I had AAA tow it to a shop (it was a little town, and I was stranded) so I had the fuel pump replaced. It wasn't priming (normally I can hear it) and I suspected this was the problem. They replaced it for a small fortune, and I drove it home Wednesday. Today (Friday), I drove it home from work and felt a little skip, almost exactly what I described above. I'm a car novice, changing fluid and filters is about all I've ever done, but I really need to address this.

1. Now that the car is fixed, I still don't hear the prime when keyed. However, I haven't had any trouble starting when sitting overnight, which makes me think maybe I just can't hear it. I'm not sure what type of pump was on it previously, but the guy swore he used an OEM fuel pump. He also said they replaced the sender because they are one unit. Is this true on these? Is it possible for the car to run well and not prime properly?

2. I'm replacing the distributor cap and rotor with factory parts tomorrow. I changed them around 6 months ago with off-brand versions, and I've read that sometimes they can cause these problems.

I'm at a loss, and really would rather not be stranded again and out another $800. Help!

 

Not sure if this is relevant, but my oil pressure has been slightly higher lately as well. I originally thought it was due to a faulty gauge, but after reading these forums, it seems like that can be a sign of problems. I've also been finding low coolant levels, although I originally thought this was due to a shotty heater coil bypass. Could the skipping and high oil pressure be related?

 

Im having the same problem. But im at the beginning stage. Haven't started changing anything yet, except the fuel filter which seemed to fix the problem so I thought until 2 days ago same problem. I have a ASE mechanic friend with over 20 yrs. experience who's really good. I'm going to try and get a hold of. Which is not a easy thing to do. If I find the problem I'll update my post.

 

Mine ended up being fuel pump again

The one I had put it failed after about 8 months and I had a new (and also better) one put in.

Problem fixed for nearly a year now.
