2002 TB- No power- Key Stuck in ignition

Default 2002 TB- No power- Key Stuck in ignition

Came out from lunch and put key in ignition. Turned to start and nothing happened. Tried to take key out, but it would not come out. There was no power to car at all. Could not lock doors, no lights, etc. Attempted to jump start w/ no luck, not even enough power to remove key. A new battery was installed about 3 weeks ago. Any ideas what the problem could be?.

Welcome to the forum.
It sounds like and ignition gear out of adjustment.
Has the ignition key and cylinder been replaced?
Does it feel "normal" when you turn the key,or does it feel tight or rough?
Is it a tilt column?
What do you mean by "no lights"..dash lights?
Do the interior lights work?
Do the headlights work?...are they bright? If they are it's not the battery.

If you can't get the key out, is that because the key doesn't return to the lock position...indication of ignition gear out of adjustment.Ignition Lock Cylinder Control Actuator
If the vehicle is equipped with a floor mounted console gear shifter, it has a ignition lock cylinder control actuator system in the steering column as an added safety feature. The ignition lock cylinder control actuators purpose is to prevent the steering wheel from being locked when the transmission is in gear and the vehicle may still be moving. The column ignition lock system consists of a ignition lock cylinder control acutator, and a park position switch that is located in the A/T shift lock control switch. The ignition lock cylinder control acutator contains a pin that is spring loaded out to mechanically prevent the ignition key cylinder from being turned to the lock position when vehicle transmission is not in the Park position. If vehicle power is lost, and/or the transmission is not in the Park position the operator will not be able to turn the ignition key to the lock position and will not be able to remove the ignition key from the column


IS it in park?

The ignition key and cylinder have not been replaced.
It feels normal when I turn the key.
It is a tilt column.

There is no power to car at all. No head lights, interior lights, can't use powerlocks, and no dashboard lights.

The car is in Park, I moved the steering wheel. We tried jump starting the car w/ no luck.

make sure that you have good contact on both terminals of battery.This happened on my 97 blazer and I am gng to look through my notes to see if I can find out the original cause.

This is definitely a battery issue....This is a NEW STYLE Trailblazer right? Not an s-10 blazer with the trailblazer trim package? The new Trailblazer has an ignition lock cylinder actuator that has to have battery voltage applied to it to turn the key all the way to the "lock" position. If the battery is dead or disconnected and you turn the ign lock cylinder on it will not turn all the way back off to remove the key. Bottom line is if you don't have headlamps there is not voltage present. Check the battery cable connections at the battery AND the engine (positive and negative) You either have a loose/corroded connection or a dead battery. By the way you can access the ign lock actuator by poping out the small plug on the lower steering column cover(right below the ignition lock cylinder) look up inside the hole and you will see a brass colored button...push up on it and you can then turn the lock cylinder off and remove the key. Like I said though this is definitely a battery issue.

if its a side post terminal battery then go to your local parts store and ask for/look in the battery section for slide on adaptors. they are flat pronged looking things with a round hole so you can slide it onto the battery bolt and clamp the jumper cables on these. they make a world of difference.
