Default 2003 Blazer 2 wheel drive brake NOISE!!!

In Dec of last year I had new brakes and rotors installed and was told the front were fine. Yesterday when I hit the brakes it sounded like I was at the warning scraper. I purchased new pads and rotors. Upon inspection I found the front pads were shot but the rotors looked great with no lip, groves or heat marks. Also they had plenty of meat so I cleaned everything and just installed the new pads. It stops better now then it has in a long time!.....BUT it STILL makes that warning scraping sound!! What did I do wrong?

You may have a caliper not moving a 100% as it should and not putting pressure on the pad right - Many many moons ago Captain Hook advised replacing the calipers every time pads were replaced - as with all things now adays they are not built to last or be reused .....

I used to rebuild mine with every pad change back in the 70/80’s but now rebuilds still bind up and are not worth it so I always put in remains with pads.

Oh well Murf Laws - You replaced pads and it seems that's all the front needed so front was cheap, Sounds like you may need to dive into the rears next tho ......

The rear pads and rotors were just changed in December by Pep Boys. So I thought it may be something under warranty so I had them check today. Guess what not under warranty because they said my caliper had Frozen destroying the driver side brake pad and rotor they recommended both caliper changes pads and one rotor to the tune of $635. So now I'm shopping for parts and going to have to figure out how to do it myself and go from there.

Go figure - most warranties don't even make good toilet paper - Let see $635.00 $200 max in parts so at those rates ill say it again I really need to raise my hourly rate - Nah never stabbed anyone before so never will .....

You can get good parts and good prices at rock auto or on amazon. I’ve also used auto parts warehouse. The local parts store has some good stuff as well if you know what to stay away from.

my favorite brake pads are Wagner thermos quiet. Decent stopping, no dust, no noise, long lasting. I’ve done good with middle of the road rotors like Wagner or bendix. I usually get my caliper remans locally. Didn’t like A1 Cardones, did ok with AC Delco.
