2003 s10 4 hi doesnt work 4 lo does
When I press the 4 high button it sounds like it engages but the front wheels do not turn indepentently. Act as if its in 2wd. But when in neutral i can put it in 4 lo and it works fine. help???

I would say check your vacuum lines first. Make sure they are all in and in good shape. I just changed all of mine not long ago and they were in bad shape. Could not get it to go into 4H. Make sure the vacuum line going to the fender is also connected. It is hard to find but it is on the driver's side fender next to the brake booster. A small little nipple that goes into a small reservoir. Check the vacuum actuator under the battery and battery tray and make sure it is not in bad shape and make sure the cable can move freely, you will need to do this anyway if you are checking/changing the vacuum lines. Also, there is a solenoid on the firewall right in the middle. That can go bad too over time. These are cheap fixes that will most likely fix the issue, but then again, it could come down to the tccm or a Tcase issue. I would start with vacuum lines to rule out a simple issue first.

Here is that Solenoid Actuator Valve I was talking about on the firewall. Just in case you wanted to change it out.

The vacuum does suck, but after changing out all vac lines on mine, it still wouldn't kick in, but after installing the new Solenoid Actuator Valve it works like a champ. Just some cheap ideas for him to try before going the expensive direction.

Hello , You did not say if it was a 3 or a 4 button selector. The solenoid that Lonewolf71 speaks of is only on the 4 button. I am going to guess yours is a 3 button because you did not mention an auto button. A common thing on the 3 button is when the encoder motor goes is doesn't know what position it should be in so it only travels from end to end ..2H to 4L . You could try disconnecting your battery for a bit , sometimes after this the 4x4 system works but its only a temporary repair.
