2005 blazer Purge valve code p0496

There are some good videos on Youtube, and some not so good ones. The problem is if you're learning, you can't tell them apart. If you have questions, just ask and we can help you.

Yup, and with all the excitement I bought it went out to the parking lot, and nope no connect. Called them and they said problem with updater or something and I said well it doesn't even connect anyway. they said they'd call me when they release the next update that includes the magic for our blazer. Back I go to return it. Saw reviews of other scanners where customers said this happens often.
Ah well.
Ah well.

That's too bad. You'd think that with a 9 year old vehicle, they would have had enough time to figure out how to connect to it. It's not like it's a 2014 Lamborghini or a Ferrari.

That's what I said!!! Why not say every vehicle but x,y,z?

Thanks for the info on this. Just bought a used blazer 2001 engine light on brought it to auto zone they tested it found needed purge valve solenoid replaced any idea how much labor costs will be how long it takes to do this job? Runs ok a bit rough not bad yet however am sure will get worse. The picture of where it is is excellent I have seen that part before under the hood on my last blazer 1999 that I sold to this guy for parts.

The solenoid is attached to the intake plenum, next to the ignition coil. Two 10mm fasteners, one vapor line, and one electrical connector. 10 minutes maximum time to replace it. Keep in mind that DTC's, (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) NEVER tell you that a part needs to be replaced. The auto parts stores are in the business of selling parts The DTC tells what circuit or system experienced a malfunction, and it must be diagnosed. Randomly replacing parts might eventually repair the problem, but it's expensive if you're not a good guesser

Hi,
Yah takes about 10 mins.
I would assume they would charge an hour for labour andthe part is $30 or
so. All one hasto do is take two screws out and disconnect the "line'
going into the unit.
You'll have to spread apart the heater hoses to get themout of the way to access it.
This was true for my 2005 blazer, not sure if 2001 is thesame.
The symptom is " hard re-starts after drivingawhile" for example you drivearound, stop for gas then try and restart it and it turns over 5 times beforestarting.
You can test the unit by blowing into the unit. Pretty sure on this. The
valve inside should allow some air where as a broken onewill not allow any.
I did the job but when I put it back together I got asmall vac leak code so I did something wrong. However the symptoms were FIXED and the CODE for that PART WAS CLEAREDand never came back.
EASY FIX....
Push the white tab to unlock the hose going into the vacunit...
