I figured id ask around, i click the 4x4 button and i hear the t case go into 4x4, but the front doesnt go in. i dug into it and noticed the actuator had a rubber boot like thing on it, it was ripped up so i ripped it outa there so for now its in 2wd but i need 4x4 to even move it at the moment, carefully articulated on a snowbank and stuck, my question is would this be the cause of my 4x not working??? question 2... So i bought this truck for 500 bucks somewhere in east bum-f*ck Maine, its a 94 s10 ls it has the 4.3 cpi (w vin code) and it was at one point a functioning 4x4, i paid 5 "not running" because it needed a fuel pump, and left, i showed back up a few weeks later to bring it home and it had snowed a little, just for waterver i reached in and flicked the key and it started right up. that tells me it doesnt need a fuel pump #1 and #2 it tells me that theres some other issue somewhere else. he said it will die randomly and never start again tell it feels like it. well i noticed it runs a little rough anyway so what would my best bet be? anybody?

question #2 - Have it scanned and check for codes. In the stickies at the top of this section [2nd gen] and look at how to test regulated fuel pressure and follow every step and too the tee. If you have questions about the results report back.

 

The old ones had a common problem with an ignition switch by the steering column. If Your fuel pressure is in tact, then it would be a next place to check.
Oh, and Yes, if that boot You say is located under the battery, it is an actuator for engaging 4WD. If rubber is torn, then it won't engage. But no worries, the actuator costs around $50.
