The 4x4 thingy doesn't light up
My 01 Jimmy has 4x4, and the little push-button thingy by the vents. The little orange light always lights up, but since I've owned the vehicle, the letters 2HI, 4HI, and 4LO have never lit up (i'm pretty sure they're supposed to) Is there a bulb in this thingythat could be burned out? Both plugs in the back are fine and 4wd works perfect. No fuses are out, else I'd have other problems too
So before Ipop it outto inspect it, does anyone know if there's a bulb in there ornot?

If the lights are not working in all the switches then you should check the harness for a bad connection, either at the switch or ground. Also check the TCCM under the dash since it controls the 4X4 engagement there maybe a bad connection/ground there two...

RE: The 4x4 thingy doesn't light up
ill check my 4x4 switch on my lunch break and let ya know if its supposed to light up, cant remember if it does
edit: Just checked it and yes the lettering should light up. Look at the back of the panel itself (it pops right out of the dash with a small flatblade screwdriver) and you should see 2 plugs. One is clear/tan and is long and narrow and the other should be blue and be more square. The square one has the wiring to lettering. Make sure that plug is in there as snug as possible. If that doesnt help you might try and see if you can find someone to borrow their switch from and see if it works. If so you need to get a new one (really cheap on ebay)or crack yours open and see if its fixable. If not then you got a wiring issue. As to which wire is which you'll need a haynes manual to check that.

There are small light bulbs inside the switch panel - easy to replace. It pops out and you can unplug it - then replace the lamps. This is IF the 4WD is working.
To test, put it in 4WD and back up on a hard surface while turning. If it starts to bind, the 4WD is working. If not, no workee. Then it's not the lamps, it's the 4WD.
