Default 96 Blazer - turn signals not working

My turn signals don't work, but the hazard lights all work. Researching the problem here, it seems there is some confusion over what causes these symptoms. One post leads me to believe changing or cleaning the hazard switch fixes the problem. Another post says the flasher behind the cigarette lighter could be broken. Another post says the turn signal switch in the column might have to be replaced.

Is all of the above is possible or is there a test procedure to narrow it down to one of the three?

It was the flasher behind the cigarette lighter. Swapped it with one from my old blazer and I'm ready for inspection.

Good thing it wasn't the hazard switch or the whole assembly. The assembly is very difficult to get at and it looks like it needs a bit that I didn't recognize to remove. The dealer price for the kit was $34.51 from gmpartsshop.com and over $50 from the dealer.

The flasher is easy to get to and replace. I needed a 7mm socket and a T-30 star bit to remove covers under the dash.
