Default 96 engine swap

Hello guys and gals I am a newbe and need help about finding out if my 96 s-10 blazer will run with a 85 chevy astro van motor in it. The reason for the swap is because mine is knocking loudly and I can't afford to have engine rebuilt but can afford spending $200 for a van with the 4.3 liter engine in it. My engine is a 4.3 liter vortec FI and the van is 4.3 liter with 4BBl carb. what will I have to change and is the swap possible?

Well, you need to inspect the block and make sure that all of your accessories as well as the intake and all sensors will be able to bolt up. I believe that your '96 has a knock sensor where the '85 would not and probably would not have any provisions for adding a knock sensor. Plus, the '85 is pre-vortec design so your intake should not bolt up.

Your best bet would be to call around to junk yards for a used 4.3L motor in your year range. You can also check out Car-Parts.com for a listing of yards in your area that would have what you are looking for.

is it possible to use the block and just switch every thing else over? I also heard of an adapter plater that will allow you to use the 4bbl intake and convert it over to fuel injection. My intake isn't the one with vortec on the metal mine has what looks like a carb but its only one barrel. sorta looks like my ford probe intake except its upright instead of sideways. my probe is a 2.2L turbo.
