Default 97 Jimmy interior& dash lamp problems

My 97 Jimmy's interior lamps weren't working when I purchased it.Upon initial inspection,I discovered that fuse 2 (courtesy) was missing.I installed a 20a fuse and now have lights but they won't turn off.My dash illumination lamps are also not working, but I believe they are on a different circuit. All gauges work and the brightness control changes the output of the radio/heater illumination lamps. All park/headlamp/flashers work as they should.Any input would be much appreciated. Thanks,DBULL

What was the problem? I am having the exact same issue with my '97 Blazer (interior lights won't turn off).

I actually went through a situation very similar to this I found the solution through some research and by accident. what happens on these is that there are wires under the under hood fuse block that like to corrode and break causing this issue to occur. so i'd start by CAREFULLY loosening and inspecting the wires under the fuse block located in the engine bay

To the best of my knowledge, there is no underhood fuse block on a '97 Chevy Blazer.

The problem may have been the door latch sensor. If working properly, it will turn on the dome light when you pull up the door handle even when the door is still closed. If the sensor is defective, it will keep the dome light on and run the battery down. That's why DBULL's fuse was missing.

97 blazer indoor lights not shutting off. switch not making contact to door panel. switch is in the side of the dash and contacts the raised boss on plastic door panel. real problem was bad door hinge allowing door to not close properly. temp solution duct tape a quater on dimple to depress switch. real solution replace worn door hinge pin .

I figured mine out and it was a door switch also. But not the front doors. It was the rear door on the driver side. The switch wasn't working, but I gave it a shot of electric contact cleaner and worked it in and out a few times and it is working now.

So make sure that you check all of the door switches and don't forget the rear hatch.
