Default '98: Rear Window Lock/Button doesn't work

Hi,

I've got a '98 4dr Blazer that has a problem with the rear window lock/latch button. The rear gate is a 2 door assembly (glass goes up, door goes down) and the lock on it is also a button that can be pressed which will pop open the glass window.

My problem is that the rear lock/button doesn't seem to do anything when pressed. The glass doesn't pop up. I can open the window by using the button on the dashboard for the rear hatch and the glass pops up like it should.

Does the lock cylinder electronically control the actuator, or is it a manual release for the glass? I'm hoping that since the actuator still works fine when the dash button is pressed that I won't need to buy a whole new assembly.

I haven't fiddled with pulling off the trim on the rear door yet to look at the assembly, but if I need to I can as I've seen other posts/threads here that talk about how to do that.

Thanks for any advice/tips! It would be great to get this fixed so I don't have to use the dash button every time I want to toss groceries or hockey gear in the back of my Blazer.

This **** out on my lift gate. I think the drop gate used the same part.

This was perfect! I've got a question though.

I had the 4-wire button that was demonstrated in the last post of that thread and I've pulled the button apart (didn't come off as easy after pressing those two tabs in. Had to use some "force"). The contacts looked pretty clean, but I wiped em down anyway.

My question is, does that metal piece that goes on top of the contacts need to be oriented in any specific way? Does that middle "arm" need to hover over a specific contact, or will any of them do? If I had to guess, I would say it is the one that is surrounded by the two plastic ridges, but I'm not sure.

I've also managed to snap 3 out of 4 of the clips on the button itself. I'll try to find some way to secure it, but if I end up needing a new button, do you know what the official name of this part is? I can't seem to find anything online at Oreilly's or Napa.

Thanks for your help! That post was exactly what I needed.

I don't know how to put your switch back together, but rockauto calls it a tailgate or trunk lid release switch.
