Default 99' key lock cylinder replacement

Does one have to remove the steering wheel assembly to replace the lock cylinder on a 1999 Blazer 4 door LS?

Following a video on servicing the multi-function switch to stop the constant clicking of the relay, it instructed one to pry off the vinyl key cover. The video was pretty correct up to that point, but attempting to do so actually snapped it from the cylinder. Apparently, the video was for another model year. I did resolve the clicking problem though simply by cleaning the contacts with Q Tips and electrical cleaner.

I am attempting to glue it on, but success is not likely. So if I have to replace it, what problems will I encounter. I do not relish taking the whole thing apart again or removing the steering wheel, as I do not have the pullers for that job.

I recall replacing the lock cylinder on a Ford F350, and all that required was a nail and about 5 minutes. I am sure GM does not have such an elegant solution.

Does anyone have the "key" to my Problem?

Default No answers??

No one seems to have responded to my questions regarding the key-lock cylinder problem. I doubt that all the brain power of this forum has found this too challenging, so I expect the post just slipped through the cracks.

As I expected, the glue did not work to secure the vinyl lock cover to the cylinder. What's the next step, guys/gals??

Thanks much!

Hi Tuna, thank you for your questions and answers, I'm sorry no one responded to you. So I have a99 blazer ls list my keys so I replaced the ignition cylinder. After drilling the old one out I went to put the new one in and the entire cylinder shifted forward and is stuck past the on position. It is not locked and the key is stuck in it. Any ideas?
