Default 4wd lockup, problem.

Hello! I have a 95 4wd lt blazer with the 3 button 4wd. When i drive the car off-road and get one front-wheel in the air, I'm not going anywhere. The 4wd works, but should the front axle lock up and help me out? This question might have been brought up earlyer, but i couldn't find it by searching. Sorry about the bad english, I'm from Norway.. Thanks guys!

No front differential is open. Without traction on one wheel, the other will not get power transferred to it. You would have to install an aftermarket locker or limited slip to get power to both front wheels.

To result in no forward motion, you would also have to be spinning a rear wheel at the same time. When locked in 4wd, the transfer case delivers equal power to both the front & rear axles. With open diffs both front & rear, it is pretty easy to get one wheel on each axle spinning like crazy resulting in no movement.

A locker in the aluminum front axle housing on these trucks isn't really a great idea.

Thank you for the quick answers. Thats just the way it is then, i'll have to work up some more speed the next time i think the rear end locks up tough, at least on the road straight ahead it does.. is there anyway to make the rear end diff-brake more efficent, by using a special type of oil or something? mabye not a good idea, as im using the blazer as a daily driver?
