Default please help!! no brakes!!!

Hello everyone. I have a 1997 s10 blazer, 2dr, four wheel drive. As if I wasn't having enough problems with the thing already, the brakes now have problems.

When I press the brake pedal I can hear a loud whooshing sound coming from where the plunger goes through the firewall into the booster. It's loud and the brakes hardly work. I have to use both feet and alot of strength to stop. I was thinking that I possibly need to change the booster but wanted to get some advice before I waste my money. Please let me know if anyone knows anything. Thank you.

Try air in the brake lines. I am having the exact same problem with my blazer. I stupidly unbolted the brake line on the drivers side to change the pads and now I have to bleed them. Anywho, check out my post which is HELP ASAP!! as so on. It's on the same page and that will tell you how to get the air out of the lines. My pedal goes right to the floor and the brakes barely work at all.

Hi thanks for the reply. I never unbolted anything and the change was quite sudden. Not sure how air would have gotten in the lines. My pedal doesn't go down any further, it just makes noise and doesn't stop well. I definitely cannot push it to the floor though.

This definitely sounds like a faulty vacuum booster. If you pull off the vacuum line on the front of the booster (check valve and all), there should be a rapid influx of air. If there isn't, then you have a leaky booster.
