4000 to 4500 rpm on start.
Hey guys. I would not be here if i could not find the answer anywhere else. I got a 01 Jimmy with the 4.3L Vortec. So my fuel pump went out. I dropped the tank put the new pump in put the tank back up. Everything went decently smooth. When i started it, it runs at 4000 to 4500 rpm with no sign of slowing down. I checked all the vacuum lines and the fuel pump lines. Every where said stuff about engine codes. Well that would be great and all BUT there are no engine codes. I am lost. Been out there all day in the germany cold and cant figure it out. Any ideas?

first off, welcome to the forum.
next, is your throttle stuck? i know you said that you check all that, but you just might have over looked it. i cant think of what else it would be. if the computer was just dumping gas it in, it wouldnt have enough air to run and would just drown under all the gas......

Ya thats why i ruled out the computer but i shook the gas pedal to make sure it was not stuck and it was all good. i even pressed on it and the rpms went higher then dropped. Its almost like the computer decided to change the idle to 4 grand on its own. But i didnt check to see the if the throttle on the engine was stuck. so i will check it and let ya know in about 30.
And thanks. I had been looking and pooking around the webiste for a while and this was my last straw that made me decide to join.

WEll guys got it fixed . . Looks like the guy who had it before me ( had it for a rough driving week before the pump went out) had the adjusted for the throttle like chest puller said was all messed up. It was super tight. I guess the thing needed a adjustment. I reckon with the fuel pump applying proper pressure now the throttle had to be adjusted. Drives great now. Thanks guys!!!! Could not do it without you!!!

glad you got it fixed and it didnt cost you anything. those are always the best fixes.
while you are in there, you might as well clean the throttle blade. a little bit of throttle body cleaner sprayed on a rag and wiped on the blade with two fingers in the rag. if your throttle blade has a hole in it, make sure that the hole is clear and can get air through it. its called an idle hole and helps the engine get the right amount of air when the blade is closed. but not all cars have the said hole.
