Default A/C has me baffled

My daughter's 2001 Blazer was blowing warm air this weekend, so I figured it just needed to be topped off with Freon. Hooked up my set of gauges and while the car was running with the compressor engaged, both the high and low side were reading 50-53 psi. Once the compressor stopped, both sides went up to 100+ psi. I am by no means an A/C expert, but I know from my experience that when the compressor engages, the low side should drop in pressure while the high side increases and when the compressor kicks off, both side will equalize. I am completely stumped.

Thanks in advance for any helpful ideas!

Bad compressor valves or bad metering device or bad gauges.

Thanks George! I know the gauge set is good because it works just fine on our 2 other cars. Looks like time to peruse Amazon for a compressor, metering valve and accumulator set. :-)
