Question Catalytic Converter

I have a 2002 Blazer 4-door 4WD and have been told that I need a new catalytic converter due to some loud rattling. Do I get a universal (lots cheaper) or do I need to get the one specifically for the blazer?

I have that same issue. The catalytic converter is welded in so that it's all one unit from the headers to the muffler, so you would probably come out paying just as much for installing the universal due to the fact that you would have to remove that cross member to access it, then cut it out, then weld in the new piece. Might as well just get the whole OEM unit and be done with it. And don't forget the oxygen sensors while you're at it. Good luck.

The universal one will work fine.

Default Good to know - thank you!!

I'll let the auto service guy know what's involved in the replacement process.

The cost issue was already addressed in the OP. Obviously has a quote for both ways. I answered the question posed.
