Default Center Console Removal - Cassette Deck

Just wanted to know if anyone has actually removed it and would have tips on getting it out without breaking anything. I have the center console with the cassette deck, the resting plate, cup holder, cd holder and a 2 deck space right in between the seats for storage.

I wanna take it apart and take a good look at it for squeak mitigation. I am also playing around with taking the cassette deck out and putting something in it's place.

Thanks in advance.

i had the same deeal, but a different console set up (cd holder coin slots, no plate)
there were 4 10mm bolts that hold the console in place. it slips right off like a helmet, allowing for uninterrrupted access to the squeak deck. best way to handle the squeaking, gently take the deck out, walk around behind your house, and with the largest hammer you have, mash it into scrap. then put ANYTHING in it's place (even dead space) to have a much more enjoyable drive.

How are these bolts accessed? I have yet to find them.

in mine, lift the console hatch, pull out the little black box that holds smallcrap, that will give you access to the large black box that holds crap. from there, pull out the large black box and you will see 2 bolts.

pop the drink holder rubber insert out. is there a screw? i believe your style has a screw or a bolt there. mine had 2 more bolts. hope that helps

Good to know. Thanks for the heads up. I'll try that this afternoon.

Can you then just slip in a console insert as if there was no cassette tape deck?

I'm sure as hell gonna try. That damned cassette deck is useless to me and it squeaks and rattles something fierce on bumpy roads.

yes. once the console is out, and you have punished your cassette deck for sucking as bad as it has for as long as it has, you just drop the console back in place and bolt her back down. Now you have a slot to drop a CB in, or a switch pannel or what ever your twisted lil brain wants.
